HISTORY
The DM Ranch, once known as the Southern Cross, was at one time part of the infamous Circle Cross Ranch, formed by Oliver M. Lee over a century ago. This ranch was once over 1 million acres, stretching from near Tularosa New Mexico to Van Horn Texas, covering a great deal of southern New Mexico.
The entire area was frequented by many well known Western personalities including Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett, and others. Victorio and many Apache traveled through out the mountains here utilizing the rich resources and the area for escaping from the U.S. Cavalry.
Battles were fought, by stockman and cowboys over water and range rights, and by the fierce Apache trying vainly to protect their way of life. The area remains much unchanged from these times, the nearest neighbor miles away.
